Toddler dies after being left in hot van while mom at work

Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove says an 18-month-old girl left in a van for seven hours died of hyperthermia.

BILOXI, Miss.-- Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove says an 18-month-old girl left in a van for seven hours died of hyperthermia.

Hargrove tells The Sun Herald that the toddler, identified as Esther Tsang, was rushed to Biloxi Regional Medical Center after 5 p.m. Tuesday and pronounced dead.

Officials say the child's mother, Stacey Tsang, went to work at 10 a.m. Tuesday and found her daughter still strapped in the backseat car seat when she got off work at 5 p.m.

Hargrove said he plans to meet with Biloxi police Thursday to discuss the details of the investigation and determine how to proceed in the case.
