NEW ORLEANS — The 'Swifties' may be heading out of town, but the estimated half a billion dollars they brought to the city is here to stay.
With Super Bowl LIX just over three months away, city officials are calling the sold-out Eras Tour a test run for the big game.
In true New Orleans fashion, the city welcomed Swifties with open arms.
“This is an incredible weekend for the City of New Orleans,” New Orleans and Company Communications Vice President Kelly Shulz said “We did what we do best, give people a great time.”
According to New Orleans and Company Communications Vice President Kelly Shulz, at least 150,000 people came to town to see one of Taylor Swift’s sold-out shows.
From tickets to meals and transportation, GNO Inc. Communications Vice President Matt Wolfe says the weekend brought in around half a billion dollars.
Three months from now, the sequin dresses that filled the dome will be NFL football jerseys.
“104 days away from the Super Bowl, this was our chance to show everyone the best New Orleans we could ever be and it seems as though we passed the test with flying colors,” Wolfe said.
Now that we aced the practice test, NOPD Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick says they’re ready for the real thing.
“We’re looking forward to another event to show off New Orleans and show off our police department,” NOPD Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick said.
That’s why we’re not telling Taylor goodbye forever because if those jerseys are Chief’s red and gold, we’ll be opening our arms to her again soon.
Wolfe says the Eras Tour was the first event of this scale to be held in the Dome since its major renovations five years ago.
