NEW ORLEANS — In your Ballot Box Breakdown, here are all the ways you can cast your vote in the November election.
Let’s start with Election Day:
- Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Nov. 5.
- Be prepared to shower a photo ID.
- If you don’t have one, you can get a special ID card for free at the Office of Motor Vehicles and vote by affidavit at the polls.
Early Voting in Louisiana runs from Oct. 18 through Oct. 29, except Sunday the 20th and Sunday the 28th. Voting booths are open from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
There are a set of designated locations in every parish where you can vote early.
If you can’t vote early or in person and need to vote absentee, you must request your absentee ballot by Nov. 1 and it has to be received by Nov. 4.
You can submit a request online, or mail in a request, and the Secretary of State recommends issuing that request as early as possible.
Absentee voters can return their ballot by mail, by fax, or have a family member hand-deliver the ballot. Louisiana has banned drop boxes for returning ballots.
