The Breakdown: Louisiana under the weather as colds, flu, & RSV rise

So, in this season of giving, here’s your reminder to keep your germs to yourself, wash your hands, cover your cough, and stay home if you’re not feeling well.

LOUISIANA, USA — Are you feeling a little under the weather? You’re not alone.

Colds, plus RSV and flu cases are all jumping up in Louisiana.

According the Louisiana Department of Health, those in the river and bayou parishes are feeling the worst.

 So, what’s going around?

The CDC’s interactive flu case map shows Louisiana had the highest flu activity in the country last week. This same time last year, our state was experiencing minimal spread.

RSV has shot up, too. According to LDH Data, 23-percent of RSV tests are coming back positive and nearly 900 people visited the emergency room with RSV last week.

Overall, more than half of lab tests performed on those sniffling and coughing in Louisiana are coming back positive for flu. 29-percent have tested positive for RSV, and 13-percent are suffering from the common cold.

The good news: COVID cases have stayed relatively low so far this year.

The bad news: we’re only at the start of the cold and flu months.

So, in this season of giving, here’s your reminder to keep your germs to yourself, wash your hands, cover your cough, and stay home if you’re not feeling well.
