The Breakdown: Legislation we’re watching this week

In your Breakdown: the bills are moving in Baton Rouge. Here are four we’re watching.

BATON ROUGE, La. — The Louisiana Senate has passed a new Louisiana Supreme Court redistricting map. It’s very similar to the one Governor Jeff Landry tried to pass during the special session. SB255 will go to the House Committee on Governmental Affairs.

The full house will also soon review HB46, which would ban all schools, colleges, and childcare centers in Louisiana from requiring a COVID-19 vaccine. NOLA public schools would be among institutions to have to drop its requirement.

A bill was introduced Wednesday to limit access to public records to residents of Louisiana. It would allow records custodians to be able to ask for a Louisiana ID to fill public records requests.

The full senate will soon debate SB207, which would require K-12 students to turn off cell phones and keep them put away for the entirety of the school day. It tweaks a current law which allows schools to set phone policies.

There are lots more notable bills rolling through. We’ll continue to follow the legislative session closely.
