The Breakdown: Louisiana Legislative Session, Day 2

It was all about committee meetings on Tuesday, and there were some interesting pieces of legislation.

BATON ROUGE, La. — In your Breakdown, we’re tracking bills in Baton Rouge on day two of the regular session.

It was all about committee meetings on Tuesday, and there were some interesting pieces of legislation. One was the introduction of a “Mystic Krewe of Femme Fatale” specialty license plate.

But there are some things to keep an eye on, too.

One bill passed through committee today that would repeal a 2022 law that restricted the release of mug shot photos except in certain cases.

There’s also an artificial intelligence bill that would make it illegal to distribute so-called “synthetic media” images of someone without their consent and noting that they were AI-generated.

Another bill would mean life in prison for those convicted of trafficking a person under 18 into sexual acts

And if you thought the redistricting debate was over, not so fast. Although the congressional redistricting passed in a special session, there’s still a fight over the Louisiana Supreme Court redistricting.

After a proposed map failed twice in a special session, some new options will be floated in committee on Wednesday.
