The Breakdown: Bills on the agenda in last week of legislative session

We’re looking at which big bills are still on the calendar.

NEW ORLEANS — In your Breakdown: the 2024 Legislative Session is soon coming to a close. We’re looking at which big bills are still on the calendar.

The Constitutional Convention Governor Jeff Landry wants is still being drafted. HB800 passed the House and is set to be heard in the Committee on Senate and Governmental Affairs.

The entire hemp industry in Louisiana could be dismantled. SB237 would make all products with any THC illegal in the state. The bill has passed the Senate and should be debated by the House this week.

Senator Heather Cloud is back with the highly controversial Senate Bill 482, which would have gutted public records access in Louisiana. Now - heavily amended - it would still exempt records from the Governor's office from sunshine laws.

And a big one: Louisiana lawmakers have not yet passed a 2024-2025 fiscal year budget. The latest version was released last Wednesday, and it's now headed to the Legislative Bureau.

The governor has used his veto power for the first time, killing a piece of legislation that would have expanded access to healthy food in underserved communities.
