NEW ORLEANS — Three of the four suspects accused of carjacking Orleans Parish District Attorney Jason Williams and his mother pleaded not guilty in Criminal District Court Tuesday as The Times-Picayune reported.
Judge Camille Buras set a $300,000 bond for Ahmad Seals, 18, and cousins Dijohn Curtis, 16, and Amajha “Cheewee” Curtis, 16. The three face counts of armed robbery which carries a minimum prison sentence of 10 years.
The Orleans DA’s Office recused itself from the case and handed prosecution over to the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office led by former Orleans DA, Leon Cannizzaro.
Williams and his mother, Janice Rogers were getting into Williams’ Lincoln Navigator on October 16 on Race Street when three armed men ordered them out of the vehicle and then drove off in Williams’ SUV.
Neither Williams nor his mother were hurt but nearby security video caught audio of Williams pleading with the suspects to let him get his mother out of the vehicle before they took it.
The vehicle was later recovered. Raymond Rochon, 18, the fourth suspect in the case was charged with possession of a stolen pickup truck police say was used in Williams’ carjacking but was not charged in the actual carjacking.
