NEW ORLEANS — Super Bowl LVIII ended in victory for the Kansas City Chiefs and now planning for Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans is already underway. In fact, it started way before the Chiefs and the 49ers lined up at the 50 yard line.
The Super Bowl is one more event added to the already full calendar for the Crescent City.
"Bayou Classic is always a big deal for Thanksgiving weekend. Of course, we have Saints weekends that are always big. We roll into Sugar Bowl then right after that we go a few weeks later we go into hosting Super Bowl then there’s one week there’s parades in the French Quarter then two more weeks to the big parades," Mary Beth Romig with New Orleans and Company said. "It’s going to be a lot of fun and everyone has to fasten their seatbelt."
Officials say the Super Bowl grows every year and expect the crowds in 2025 to be massive.
"It’s over 100,000 people will be in town. We’ve said 125,000, it could be bigger than that of course. That doesn’t include our local participation," Jay Cicero, President of the Super Bowl LIX host committee said.
The football faceoff is scheduled for Feb. 9, 2025, which is just about three weeks before Fat Tuesday 2025. Both are huge attractions for tourists and each brings in their own crowds. With so many people expected to visit the city around the same time, we wondered if there are enough hotel rooms to accommodate everyone.
"The Mardi Gras visitors don't start coming in until the two weeks associated with Mardi Gras, so this is way before that," Cicero said.
"We'll have it. We have tens of thousands of rooms downtown, we have a region that's ready to welcome people. People who need to will stay in Baton Rouge if they to and drive in," Romig said.
They say we have more hotels than the last time we hosted the Super Bowl but you might want to reserve them as soon as possible. Thursday we took a look at what's available and the cheapest hotel right now was $427 a night. Most of them were much more expensive, around $1,000 a night. So while there will be space available, no one said it wouldn't be expensive.
