NOPD and State Police partnership rekindled in Operation Golden Eagle 3.0

The operation will see more state troopers patrolling New Orleans neighborhoods beyond the French Quarter. Mayor Cantrell says this will free up NOPD officers.

NEW ORLEANS — New Orleans will once again see Louisiana State Police troopers patrolling the streets beyond the French Quarter.

Mayor LaToya Cantrell announced her support for New Orleans Police Department Superintendent Michelle Woodfork's request to Col. Lamar Davis and the Louisiana State Police to activate Operation Golden Eagle 3.0 as it is called.

The operation will see more state troopers patrolling New Orleans neighborhoods beyond the French Quarter. Mayor Cantrell says this will free up NOPD officers in other areas.

"At the request of NOPD Superintendent Michelle Woodfork, the NOPD and LSP are pleased to announce the return of Operation Golden Eagle,” Cantrell said.

“This is a partnership with the LSP to add state troopers to New Orleans patrols. Last year, we expanded this program to where state trooper patrols were no longer confined to the French Quarter. Keeping this momentum going, LSP will once again be stationed throughout New Orleans and directly in our neighborhoods keeping us safe, allowing our officers to be more visible and used more effectively in areas where they are most needed. In addition, Operation Golden Eagle 3.0 will include more interstate enforcement from LSP as well.”

Though the Cantrell administration has not announced an official start date, previous Operation Golden Eagle operations typically start in the Summer.
