ABITA SPRINGS, La. — St. Tammany Parish Fire Protection officials said one of their firetrucks got in an accident on Monday, injuring one.
The crash happened Monday morning on Highway 435 near Mossy Hill Road in Abita Springs.
Representatives from District Seven said on Tuesday that a firefighter was airlifted to University Medical Center after the incident.
Officials said that Louisiana State Police conducted an investigation that found an object left on the road. Once the driver encountered the item, he apparently steered left, smacking into a tree. The driver of the truck was then trapped inside.
Fire District Seven said that crews arrived afterward to clear debris from the roadway.
Another fire district, District 12, has lent one of their firetrucks to temporarily replace the damaged vehicle.
