FEMA reopens Disaster Recovery Center in new St. John Parish location

Additional locations in Ascension, Assumption, Lafourche, Jefferson, St. Charles, St. James, St. Mary and Terrebonne parishes are also open.
Some residents are now forced to toss out years and years of memories, saying everything was damaged when their homes flooded in LaPlace, La. Eleanor Tabone reports.

EDGARD, La. — FEMA announced a new location for its Disaster Recovery Center, which serves Louisiana survivors of Hurricane Francine in St. John the Baptist Parish.

According to FEMA, the DRC will open doors at 8 a.m. on Wednesday at the Westbank Library located at 2979 LA Highway 18 in Edgard.

Additional locations in Ascension, Assumption, Lafourche, Jefferson, St. Charles, St. James, St. Mary and Terrebonne parishes are also open. All centers will operate from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday. To find the DRC nearest to you, visit the DRC Locator (fema.gov).

FEMA said residents in the designated parishes can visit any DRC to meet with representatives of FEMA, the U.S. Small Business Administration, along with other community partners. No appointment is needed to visit the center.

The centers are accessible to people with disabilities or access and functional needs and are equipped with assistive technology. If you need a reasonable accommodation or a sign language interpreter, please call 833-285-7448 (Press 2 for Spanish).

Residents in need can apply for FEMA disaster assistance, ask questions about disaster recovery assistance or get help with your recovery or application.

Additional options when applying for FEMA assistance include:

  • The quickest way to apply is by going online at disasterassistance.gov/.
  • Download the FEMA App for mobile devices.
  • Call the FEMA helpline at 800-621-3362 between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m. Help is available in most languages. If you use a relay service, such as video relay (VRS), captioned telephone or other service, give FEMA your number for that service.
