ST BERNARD, La. — A Folsom man was killed early Tuesday morning after being struck by a vehicle on Highway 39 in Chalmette.
Louisiana State Police say Andrew Sartalamacchia, 35, was walking north on Pelitere Drive when, for reasons still under investigation, he entered the southbound lanes of East Judge Perez Drive.
At the same time, a 2014 Ford pickup traveling south in the left lane struck Sartalamacchia. He sustained severe injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he later died.
State police said impairment is not suspected on the part of the pickup driver, but a voluntary blood sample was collected for analysis. It is currently unknown if Sartalamacchia was impaired; toxicology results are pending.
The crash remains under investigation.
