23-year-old St. Bernard man killed in two-vehicle crash, state police say

VIOLET, La. — A two-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 46 near Francke Place claimed the life of 23-year-old Kerry Guerra, Jr., of St. Bernard Parish.

According to Louisiana State Police, the crash occurred around 8:30 p.m., on Wednesday.

Upon initial investigation, troopers from Troop B said Guerra was driving a 2001 Chevrolet S10 pickup truck east on LA 46 toward Francke Place. At that time, a 2013 Dodge truck was being driven on east on LA 46 ahead of Guerra.

For reasons still under investigation, Guerra struck the rear of the Dodge and then went off the road where the Chevrolet hit a tree.

According to state police, Guerra, who was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, suffered serious injuries and was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. 

The driver of the Dodge was properly restrained and uninjured.

As part of the ongoing investigation, routine toxicology samples were obtained for analysis.
