18-year-old arrested for murder of 14-year-old in Chalmette

Kelan Sartin, 18, was arrested and booked with second-degree murder

Police arrested an 18-year-old for the murder of a 14-year-old in Chalmette.

According to the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office, 18-year-old Kelan Sartin was arrested and booked with second-degree murder as well as possession with intent to distribute marijuana and illegal possession of a firearm.

According to the St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office, 911 dispatchers received a call about a shooting in the 3600 block of Golden Drive in Chalmette at about 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 9.

When deputies arrived, they found the 14-year-old shot multiple times and lying in a grassy courtyard between two buildings. St. Bernard Parish Sheriff James Pohlmann says EMS transported the victim to the University Medical Center hospital where he later died.
