SLIDELL, La. — Crews worked to restore power in Slidell after an EF-2 tornado swept across the area Wednesday leaving nearly 30,000 without power in the Northshore.
Cleco also saw a larger number of customers lose power statewide, with St. Landry and Evangeline parishes also experiencing issues after the storm.
Cleco said 7,972 remained without electricity Friday morning at 9, that is half the number that Cleco had reported Thursday afternoon.
"Last night, Cleco restored power to half of the customers who remained without power following Wednesday's severe weather that disrupted power for nearly 45,000 customers statewide," Cleco said Friday morning.
On Thursday, the National Weather Service said that much of the destruction in Slidell was caused by an EF-2 tornado, with wind speeds up to 120 mph.
The "EF2 tornado touched down 1 mile north of Eden Isle and tracked east-northeast," NWS said on Thursday. "It crossed onto Old Spanish Trail where the worst of the damage occurred."
