NEW ORLEANS — Saints fans have been on a roller coaster ride this season and with just five games left and the hope of making it into the playoffs is touchy at best.
WWL Louisiana's Whitney Miller breaks down their probability and hears what the fans have to say about it.
According to the New York Times, the Saints have some life in the post season. It's a slim chance though, only 18 percent. Miller spoke to fans on Friday to say whether the team will win or lose this weekend and there's still some change that needs to happen.
“Mrs. Benson need to clean house on the off season to be real, because they are not playing. I thought we were going to bring the paper bags back and we was going to go in the dome," a fan told Miller.
Strong words from Saints fan Karla Carter, who Miller found shopping in black and gold ahead of the Saints match up against the Carolina Panthers. She says she's not impressed with the Saints performance this year.
“I like to watch the game but now it doesn’t interest me”, Carter said.
And she's not alone. Fan Johnny Jeanice channeled his frustration by giving away 140 t-shirts that say 'Fire Dennis Allen'.
“Dennis Allen may be a great guy, I haven’t met him personally. Probably a nice guy, just not a head coach. He’s not a productive winning head coach," Jeanice told Miller.
He says the response in the stands was overwhelming.
“They loved it, they were proud of it, wearing it. Maybe the front office has accepted that hey this seasons a wash, this is where we are. we’ll make changes in the off season but I think the fans deserve more”, he said.
But not everyone is ready to hand over a pink slip. Miller talked to former Saints legend Andy Doris who said “Everybody goes through those periods where things don’t work right but some things work very well and you gotta work on the things that are well.”
Black & Gold Sports Shop owner Pam Randazza said the team's talent should not be overlooked.
“I Just take every week as it comes, and you never know. We could pan out and win a lot of these games coming up. We’re at home for a few of them and get healthy and get right back in there. You’ve got a lot of good talent on this team.”
Randazza told Miller “the love is there; they are just frustrated.”
Jeanice plans to hand out more shirts in front of the Superdome at Sunday's game. He says they are for free but he's asking people to make donations to two local animal rescue organizations.
To donate visit Heros Everywhere Animal Rescue and K9 Rouge Rescue.
