NEW ORLEANS — Popular New Orleans restaurant Saint John announced that Sunday was its last day of operation at its French Quarter location in the 1100 block of Decatur Street.

In a statement released on the restaurant's social media, ownership said the plans are to reopen at a new location following a temporary summer closure.

"It’s a bittersweet announcement for our team, but we can’t wait for what’s ahead," the announcement stated. "Last night, we closed shop at Saint John on Decatur Street. Although we’ll be closed for the summer, we have exciting plans to reopen in a NEW location in a few months!"

Management of the self-described Haute Creole concept eatery met with staff on Monday, and said it would pay the employees for the next few weeks with the hope of rehiring them when the restaurant reopens this fall.

"We can’t WAIT to share the news of our new location with you," the post stated. "Saint John is going to become what we’ve always envisioned…just what it’s supposed to be."

While no specifics have been provided as to future plans, the statement did say that further details will be released in the next few weeks.

News of the closure comes six months after Saint John nearly shut down due to a disputed $40,000 Entergy bill.

“It’s a bittersweet announcement for our team, but we can’t wait for what’s ahead. Last night, we closed shop at Saint John on Decatur Street. Although we’ll be closed for the summer, we have exciting plans to reopen in a NEW location in a few months! We met with our staff today and will be paying them for the next few weeks with hopes of reuniting #TeamSaintJohn again in the fall. We can’t share the full details yet, but what we can share is this. For us, this transition is our chance to let Saint John shine. It’s our dream and it’s really happening. 🤘🏻

“To our loyal customers, friends and family – can’t thank you enough for the happy hours, brunches (and drag brunches!) and dinners you shared with us. We’ve had some awesome times…along with some really difficult times operating a restaurant in the French Quarter. But we LOVE this restaurant, we believe in this concept, and we wouldn’t take closing forever for an answer. We can’t WAIT to share the news of our new location with you – Saint John is going to become what we’ve always envisioned…just what it’s supposed to be.

“For now, we’re saying goodbye. But don’t worry…what’s next is going to be GREAT. #STAYTUNED #SAINTJOHNNOLA
