HAMMOND, La. — A new state of the art broadcast media center at Southeastern Louisiana University will be named after renowned journalist and television anchor Robin Roberts.
An alum of the university, Roberts is excited for what the media center will bring to students.
“I am so incredibly proud of the standard of excellence here at Southeastern," she told WWL-TV's reporter Whitney Miller.
The state funded project will help to renovate D-Vickers hall, which is a building school officials said is integral to Southeastern.
Governor John Bel Edwards said everyone knows Robin and the "center will mean so much for many students for generations to come," he told Miller.
And Robin credits a WWL-TV legend for giving her the passion for journalism, her sister, Sally Ann Roberts.
"She poured into me and she taught me the importance of helping people like you who have these big beautiful eyes and you have big dreams," she said.
