Demolition underway on building of former Rite Aid - K&B drugstore

The site of the building has plenty of local history before becoming a Rite Aid and then a vacant building.

NEW ORLEANS — The demolition of the old Rite Aid building that was once the home to K&B drugstore on St. Charles Avenue is well underway.

The property developers plan to build apartment buildings on the site once all permits are secured. They hope construction could begin as early as next year.

The site of the building has plenty of local history.

From 1905 to the mid-1950s an apartment building was located on the site, with a K&B drugstore on the first floor.

It was demolished though, and a more modern K&B drugstore opened in the early 1960s before the national chain Rite Aid purchased the local K&B chain in 1997 and the store eventually closed in 2018.

National chain Rite Aid ran more than 2,100 stores across 17 states, mostly on the East and West Coasts before recently filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
