NEW ORLEANS — In a video exclusively obtained by WWL Louisiana, New Orleans Police Department Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick confirmed that she is not a candidate for the Los Angeles Police Department's police chief position despite a social media post suggesting she was among the finalists.
News reports spread Saturday over a now-deleted social media post by Burke Consulting Firm's Alma Burke, the CEO of a recruiting firm helping the LAPD find its next police chief. The post showed Kirkpatrick with other potential candidates.
"Exciting news," the LinkedIn post said. "More than half of the candidates have shown exceptional leadership skills and a deep commitment to serving and protecting the people of Los Angeles."
However, the Linkedin post by Burke, could not be found on her social media page as of Sunday.
"I am not part of the search committee. I am retired LAPD, interested observer, and supporter of some of the candidates on the list," Burke said. "The post allowed for dialogue amongst law enforcement and key community stakeholders."
Burke did not say why the post was deleted.
In the video obtained by WWL Louisiana, NOPD Chief Kirkpatrick said, "Hi everybody. As you can see, I'm at home and there's so much big news going on right now. But I did want to address for those of you who know that a list came out today that I am a candidate for Los Angeles police chief and I just needed to let you know I am not a candidate. So thank you very much."
Kirkpatrick joined the New Orleans Police Department as their next Superintendent in late 2023 and has been on the force for less than a year.
