KENNER, La. — The Zulu Queen has arrived!
The Zulu Social Aid & Pleasure Club announced Krewe of Zulu’s Queen-Select for 2024 with an unveil as A. Angélique Roché arrived at the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport Sunday afternoon.
Roché, a St. Roch resident, descends from Zulu royalty, she is the daughter Alvin Alphonse Roché Jr. and Queen Zulu 1996 Rose A. Lee Roché. She also joined the Zulu Court at a young age, she was part of the Zulu Royal Court of the late King Roy E. Glapion Jr. and Queen Desire Glapion-Rogers for the 2000 Carnival season.
"This is a fairy tale. To understand the importance of being in this position is not just about coconuts, which it is, because I remember running after a many of floats, watching our royalty down the streets of New Orleans. For me it is about the privilege of bringing joy," said Roché.
WWL Louisiana Anchor Charisse Gibson is also a member of this year’s Zulu Royal Court as Assistant to the Zulu Queen.
“I am so thrilled to be part of this experience. Queen Select Angelique has been tremendous behind the scenes, so happy to see her shine publicly as Queen Select. This has been an adventure that has taken place over the last few months. Can’t wait to ride along with my fellow attendants in the Zulu parade on Mardi Gras Day,” said Gibson.
Zulu Queen-Select Roché graduated with honors from Southern University and A&M College with a BA in Mass Communication.
She worked for Senator Mary Landrieu as a Legislative Aide from 2008 -2012 before working on President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign.
Roché is currently a consultant, writer, and host. In 2018 she joined the team at Marvel Entertainment as a host and producer. In 2020 her work expanded to include being a member of the Marvel editorial team and as a consultant for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
She is also a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, the Archdiocese of New Orleans Gospel Choir and Delta Sigma Theta sorority.
