Police chase in New Orleans East ends with crash, suspects still on the run

The Levee Police said an officer responded to a call of suspicious activity, that led to an officer firing shots and a chase began.

NEW ORLEANS — A call to police about “suspicious activity” on Lakeshore Drive, leads to a police chase, shots fired, and a crash in New Orleans East.

The East Bank Levee Police Department says officers were called to an area near a recreational shelter in the 5800 block of Lakeshore Drive at about 2:53 a.m. Wednesday.

“Upon arrival, officers encountered suspects and two vehicles. The situation escalated when the vehicles, a white Hyundai Sonata with Texas plates and an unknown red sedan also rammed a police vehicle,” said a press release from the East Bank Levee Police Department.

The Levee Police said that led to an officer firing shots and a chase began.

The white Hyundai Sonata with Texas plates was later sighted in the 7th District at Haney Drive and Wales Street. The suspects reportedly fled on foot at that location. The red vehicle was not recovered.
