PLAQUEMINES PARISH, La. — After a 1,000 gallon oil spill off the coast of Plaquemines Parish, The U.S. Coast Guard reported Saturday that pipeline had been restored before the weekend.
The Texas Petroleum Investment Company had been building a pipeline off the coast of Venice, La. when the company estimated 1,008 gallons of oil dumped into the gulf Wednesday. The Coast Guard and other oil spill removal groups were called to respond to the damage the next day.
"An overflight by the U.S. Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans aircrew reported a broken 13-mile sheen with streaks of recoverable oil Thursday."
The Coast Guard as well as the other on-site environmental groups were apparently able to repair the damage in one day.
"The pipeline was brought back into operation on Friday with no further reported discharge," The U.S. Coast Guard reported on Saturday. "An overflight on Friday with a Coast Guard Sector New Orleans pollution responder onboard and a follow-on overflight flight today reported no oil observed."
The Coast Guard said there were no injuries, shoreline impacts or wildlife damage as a result of the spill. The branch of the U.S. military said that an investigation was put in place into the cause of the spill.
