Chalmette man arrested on numerous hunting and fishing violations, LDWF says

If convicted, the man faces possible jail time and heavy fines for the illegally taken deer and alligator.

DAVANT, La. — Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents arrested 19-year-old Gerald P. Ruiz IV following an investigation on Wednesday.

According to LDWF, Ruiz was allegedly taken into custody and booked into the Plaquemines Parish Jail in Davant, La., for the following hunting and fishing violations:

  • Violating charter guide regulations
  • Violating hunting guide regulations
  • Taking alligators without a license
  • Taking alligators from an unapproved area
  • Failing to tag deer
  • Taking deer using illegal methods
  • Taking deer during a closed season
  • Hunting deer from a public road
  • Intentional concealment of wildlife
  • Selling fish caught recreationally and failing to comply with recreational offshore landing permit requirements

Agents began the investigation after receiving information regarding Ruiz allegedly offering an illegal guide service in which he offered charter fishing trips and duck hunts without a commercial guide license.

If convicted, Ruiz faces possible jail time for each offense, as well as civil restitution totaling $3,625 for the illegally taken deer and alligator.
