PLAQUEMINES PARISH, La. — A pedestrian standing in the lane of a highway in Plaquemines Parish was struck and killed by a passing motorist.
It happened Thursday just before 9:00 p.m.
Troopers with Louisiana State Police responded to a vehicle crash involving a pedestrian on LA 23, south of Reddick Lane in Port Sulphur.
Troopers say the crash claimed the life of 31-year-old Trevor Powe of Terrytown.
“The initial investigation revealed a 2005 Cadillac Escalade was traveling south in the right lane of LA 23 in Port Sulphur,” an LSP report says. “For reasons still under investigation, Powe was standing in the right lane of LA 23 and was struck by the Cadillac. In the area of the crash, there are no designated crosswalks and lighting is limited. Additionally, Powe was wearing dark-colored clothing at the time of the crash.”
Powe suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Cadillac was not injured in the crash.
Troopers also say impairment is not suspected on the part of the driver of the Cadillac and is unknown for Powe, toxicology tests are pending. This investigation is ongoing.
