Woodfork speaks on retirement from NOPD

She was the first female interim superintendent of NOPD and now plans to retire this Saturday after a 33-year career.

NEW ORLEANS — Wednesday, WWL-TV broke the news that Deputy Superintendent Michelle Woodfork would be stepping down, leaving the New Orleans Police Department without a Woodfork in it for the first time in 60 years.

She was the first female interim superintendent of NOPD and now plans to retire this Saturday after a 33-year career.

Thursday, we heard from her for the first time about what she plans to do. She told WWL Lousiana Medical reporter Meg Farris that she plans to take her only child on trips to see colleges and universities. He will be graduating from high school in May of 2025.

“I am going to go home and just, you know, be with my parents and make sure my son, navigate him through choosing what college he's going to attend, and get through his senior year just to start out. That will be in the immediate. I probably will, more than likely, serve the community in some other ways, do some volunteering, but for right now just going home and relaxing, enjoying my time in retirement,” said Woodfork.

Woodfork says the college process has already started, her son's ACT test scores recently came back and were good.
