Westbank students stage walkout

After school several students told WWL-TV they were told Dr. Watts was forced to resign.

NEW ORLEANS — LB Landry High School students launched a walkout Friday, protesting the alleged departure of school principal Dr. Alicia Carter-Watts.

Holding signs that read ‘No Watts No Landry’ and chanting “We want Watts,” dozens of LB Landry students walked out of their lunch period.

After school, several students told WWL-TV they were told Dr. Watts was forced to resign. But Watts is still listed as a principal on the school’s website.

Algiers Charter Schools Association C.O.O Dr. Tammi Majors sent WWL-TV the following statement.

“Algiers Charter Schools Association encourages students to make their voices heard and express themselves. Today several L.B. Landry High School students voiced their concerns regarding the recent school site updates. Our team has met with students to listen to them, understand their position, and ensure their opinions are a part of the larger conversation. We have documented all concerns and will address each one of them.”

The school system would not say whether Watts was still employed at LB Landry.

We reached out to Dr. Watts for comment and have not received a response.
