State gives former 911 director's case to a different attorney

The former 911 director is facing charges of malfeasance in office, false personation of a peace officer, insurance fraud and second-degree public records injuring.

NEW ORLEANS — Former New Orleans 911 center director Tyrell Morris' hearing was rescheduled Thursday because the case has been handed over to a different state attorney.

The former 911 director is facing charges of malfeasance in office, false personation of a peace officer, insurance fraud and second-degree public records injuring.

The charges came after a WWL Louisiana investigation revealed that Morris may have tried to cover up a car crash he had in a city-owned vehicle last year.

Morris did not take a drug and alcohol test, which is required under city policy.

Our investigation also revealed that Morris may have altered the policy after the wreck so he would not have to take the tests.

Morris has pleaded not guilty to all charges. He is now required to appear in court on August 29th and September 19th for motions hearings.
