SWBNO lifts advisory for majority of Uptown, boil water still in effect for residents near repair

SWBNO also warned drivers Thursday afternoon to find an alternate route to avoid any potential traffic caused by repairs to the main.

NEW ORLEANS — The boil water advisory has been lifted for majority of Uptown, Sewerage and Water Board announced Friday. However, those near the water line repair remain under the advisory.

According to SWBNO, the following households are still under precautionary boil water advisory, samples have been collected and testing is underway:

  • 200 block of Audubon Blvd.
  • 6300 block of S. Johnson St.
  • 5430 S. Claiborne Ave.
  • 5436 S. Claiborne Ave.
  • 5500 S. Claiborne Ave.
  • 5508 S. Claiborne Ave.
  • 5510 S. Claiborne Ave.
  • 6102 S. Claiborne Ave.
  • 6112 S. Claiborne Ave.
  • 2852 State St.
  • 3000 Calhoun St.

A map of the affected areas can be found here.

Residents in the affected areas are advised to use bottled or boiled tap water to drink, cook, clean food or brush teeth until further notice. Residents with compromised immune systems should also use safe water to wash hands, shower or bathe.

The advisory lift comes after some New Orleans residents reported low water pressure on Thursday afternoon as SWBNO officials said they were working to repair a broken water main.

No boil water advisory was put in place after the main break, but SWBNO said they would monitor the water pressure and make a decision.

"We are working to repair a 30 inch water main on South Claiborne Avenue and Octavia Street," the Sewerage and Water Board said on Thursday afternoon. "We are monitoring pressure in the area and will advise if a precautionary boil water advisory is needed."

SWBNO also warned drivers to find an alternate route to avoid any potential traffic caused by repairs to the main.
