NEW ORLEANS — A Seventh Ward building was destroyed early Friday morning in a three-alarm fire that brought a reported 51 firefighters from NOFD to the area.
No civilians or firefighters were reported hurt in the fire. The building was vacant but neighbors and the building's owners had reported that they had seen people inside the structure.
NOFD said that it only took about 10 minutes to upgrade the fire from a one-alarm to two-alarm.
"After beginning an initial attack on the structure and assessing the potential exposure to occupied homes in this densely populated neighborhood, a second alarm had been requested at 1:21 a.m.," NOFD said Friday morning. "Firefighters were forced to conduct an exterior attack on the structure, that had been gutted by its current owner in preparation for renovations."
About 12 minutes later, that fire was upgraded to a third alarm.
According to NOFD, NOPD and Entergy showed up to the scene to help put out the fire.
