NEW ORLEANS — The Louisiana Secretary of State's Office will assist the Orleans Parish Registrar of Voters office in their day to day operations while the Registrar's office handles certification responsibilities of recall signatures.
"The Secretary of State will be allowed to provide Secretary of State personnel to handle the day to day operations of the Orleans Registrar Office in order to free up the the registrar's personnel to handle certification of recall signatures," spokesman John Tobler said in an interview with WWL Radio's Newell Normand on Friday.
"The SOS office has coordinated with the Registrar of Voters Council and the Orleans Registrar of Voters office to receive assistance from other Registrar of Voters offices to facilitate the certification process."
Tobler also confirmed that the Registrar's office requested the assistance.
The Registrar's office is tasked with verifying signatures on each recall petition before March 14.
If the proper number of signatures are verified, Governor John Bel Edwards would then be tasked with assigning a date for the recall election to take place.
