Man wanted after allegedly flashing gun on Delgado campus

One student told us they had to barricade themselves inside of their classroom.

NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Police Department is searching for a man after he allegedly flashed a gun at a student on the Delgado Community College campus.

Delgado Police said the suspect was not a student.

According to officials, the suspect came onto campus and had a verbal altercation with a student around 10 a.m.

"During the altercation, the suspect verbally threatened the life of the victim and also lifted the front of his shirt, exposing a handgun in his waistband," NOPD said. 

Police arrived at the scene quickly and searched the campus, but the suspect had already fled in a grey Infiniti sedan.

"At no time was there an active shooter," Delgado Police Chief Warren Riley said.

Surveillance video has since been turned over to NOPD.  

Anyone with information about the crime or the suspect is asked to call Third District detectives at 504-568-6030 or to anonymously call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.

Delgado Community College released the following statement on the incident:

This morning at Delgado Community College's City Park Campus in Building 1, an incident occurred between a student and a non-student, during which the non-student displayed a gun. Delgado Campus Police responded immediately and are coordinating with local law enforcement, who are actively investigating. Some employees and students were aware of the incident and took shelter as a precautionary measure. Witnesses and campus police confirmed that the subject left the scene in a gray vehicle.  Campus police conducted a thorough inspection of campus and facilities. No one was injured. At this time, the campus is secure and normal operations have resumed.
