NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Police Department says the person of interest in the shooting that killed a 3-year-old boy in Central City has turned herself in.
Tatisha Refuge, who was wanted for questioning about the incident, turned herself in on Monday around 1 p.m. Refuge is the owner of the gun that the child was shot with, according to investigators.
The shooting happened while the boy's mother, her boyfriend, and the boy's 10-year-old brother were visiting a family friend, Refuge, who lives in the home on Willow Street. NOPD said the child found the loaded gun and shot himself accidentally.
