NEW ORLEANS — New Orleans police shot and wounded a suspect Tuesday night near the Lafitte Greenway.
According to New Orleans police, officers were investigating an armed robbery near the corner of N. Rocheblave and St. Louis Street around 8 p.m. when the shooting happened.
NOPD officials say a member of the public called the victim's stolen cellphone. It rang, revealing the suspect hiding behind a bush.
The suspect and officers then exchanged gunfire and the suspect was shot in the leg three times, according to NOPD.
Police said the suspect's wounds are not life threatening.
Police said they are still working to determine if the wounded suspect is the person wanted for the armed robbery officers were investigating.
No officers were wounded in the shooting.
