NEW ORLEANS — One man is dead after a multi-car crash on Interstate 10, according to the New Orleans Police Department.

Officers said they believe four vehicles were involved in the accident. Police say the crash happened on Interstate 610 West at Interstate 10 around 2 p.m. All lanes reopened on I-610 near the I-10 merge around 5 p.m. There is still congestion at Paris Avenue.

NOPD said the driver of a gold Lincoln sedan was in the left lane when it traveled off the road and hit a white Honda sedan. The Lincoln driver then drove "through the median and entered the left merge lane of I-610 West, striking a red Ford pickup truck."

The Honda and Ford pickup truck then stopped at the intersection of I-10 and I-610.

Officers said the driver of the Lincoln was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died.

The driver of the Ford did not report any injuries, while the driver of the Honda "self-transported" to a nearby hospital to treat their injuries.

NOPD said another vehicle was also damaged from the accident.

According to NOPD, I-610 West was closed at the I-10 interchange near the Jefferson Parish line.

Drivers are asked to seek alternate routes until the scene has been cleared.

No other information is available.
