NOPD: Woman killed in 2-vehicle crash on Chef Menteur Highway

Police say the crash happened in the 6900 block of Chef Menteur Highway around 8 p.m.

NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Police Department is investigating a traffic fatality that left one woman dead Sunday night.

Police say the crash happened in the 6900 block of Chef Menteur Highway around 8 p.m.

According to investigators, the driver of a Ford Fusion was speeding and hit the back of a Nissan Maxima while driving westbound on Chef Menteur Highway.

"Upon clipping the back of Nissan, the driver of the Ford veered off the road and hit a tree and then struck a telephone pole near the intersection of Chef Menteur Highway and Chantilly Drive," NOPD said." "Investigators say the vehicle then flipped."

EMS took an adult female and an adult male who were in the Nissan to the hospital. The female died a short time later.

Police said once the man is released from the hospital, he will face charges of battery of a police officer stemming from a fight with police shortly after they arrived to investigate the crash.

It is not known at this time who was driving the Nissan.

No other injuries were reported.

Anyone with additional information that can help in the investigation is asked to contact NOPD Traffic Division Fatality Investigators at 504-658-6210.
