City of New Orleans to activate additional school zones

Officials said, "This phased activation is part of the City’s commitment to ensuring school zones comply with state law and promote safety for students and drivers."

NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans Department of Public Works announced that school zone flashers will be activated at five more locations starting on Wednesday, Oct. 16.

Officials said, "This phased activation is part of the City’s commitment to ensuring school zones comply with state law and promote safety for students and drivers." 

The following school zones will be activated as part of this phase:

  • Southbound 2900 Paris Ave. at St. Leo the Great School
  • Northbound 2900 Paris Ave. at St. Leo the Great School
  • Eastbound Bienville Street. at North St. Patrick Street
  • Northbound 3900 Canal St. at St. John Lutheran School
  • Southbound 1700 Nashville Ave. at The Willow Middle/High School

According to the City of New Orleans Act No. 103, school zone cameras operate only during specific times: one hour before and one hour after the beginning of the school day and one hour before and one hour after the end of the school day.
