Texas, Washington fans crowd Bourbon St. ahead of Sugar Bowl

“It’s one of the great cities, not just in the country, but in the world,” One tourist said. “It’s just beautiful.”

NEW ORLEANS — The streets of the French Quarter were full of people ready to ring in the new year. Some came for the big game Monday, others to watch the Fleur-de-lis drop, and most came to celebrate the final hours of 2023.

As floats fans and bands marched along the Mississippi River, the Allstate Sugar Bowl Parade kicked off New Year’s Eve festivities. The Texas Longhorns and Washington Huskies got ready to go to the Superdome.

The parade may have stopped at Canal Street, but the team spirit did not.

“It’s one of the great cities, not just in the country, but in the world,” One tourist said. “It’s just beautiful.”

If you’re looking for somewhere to go this New Year’s Eve, the iconic Fleur-de-lis will drop at Jax Brewery at midnight. If you don’t want to face the crowds downtown, a firework show will take over the sky above the Mississippi River.
