NEW ORLEANS — One of New Orleans' most well-known musical artist and businessmen is taking on the role of elevating the city's entertainment industry.
On Friday, the city introduced Percy Robert Miller Sr. also known as 'Master P' as the New Orleans entertainment ambassador for Super Bowl LIX.
Mayor Cantrell said Master P was chosen for his ability to connect New Orleans to more special events and opportunities and his ability to cement the city on the world stage.
The initiative will establish a "Hollywood South Collaborative" of master-class environments designed to mentor and teach essential entertainment business skills, the city said in a release.
"We are doing this through film, television and entertainment," Master P said. "But we are also doing this through business because I want people to see what I was able to grow."
"I grew up in the projects in New Orleans and was able to change my life and educate myself. Get out there to see more. And I want more for the city of New Orleans," he said.
Master P will begin his role by joining the NOLA Insight Podcast where he will meet with entertainment influencers next month.
He was born and raised in New Orleans and attended Booker T. Washington High School and Warren Easton Charter School.
Master P studied Business Communications and later relocated to Richmond, CA where he opened his first small business, a record store he called No Limit Records, the release said. He then turned it into a record label that is "one of the biggest music brands in the industry", expanding his work into television, film, acting, sports, clothing and real estate.
According to Nola.com, Cantrell said "He's deserving of all the love, all the praise, for demonstrating the resiliency of this community and that there's no limit to accomplishing great things for the city of New Orleans."
