NEW ORLEANS — A one-alarm fire at Civil District Court that the fire department classified as "very suspicious" did some damage to the first floor Sunday. A member of the sheriff’s office said the incident was contained to one office on the first floor. There was some damage to that office and 3 windows.
Walt Pierce, a spokesman for the court, said that Civil District Court and First District Court would be closed Monday in the wake of the fire. There is no immediate word on whether that closure could be extended.
The fire department responded before 8 a.m and were gone a short time later.
A spokesperson for the Fire Department said crews responding to the alarm searched the building before finding the fire in an office on the first floor.
"Although the first floor of the building did experience a considerable amount of smoke and water damage, firefighters did a remarkable job of keeping the fire contained to the room of origin," said a news release from the NOFD.
No one was injured.
A WWL-TV crew saw some water on the first floor from the fire crews.
