10,000 Uptown lost power Thursday morning

Entergy's outage map showed more than 10,000 customers without power around 4 a.m. Power was restored to most customers by 4:45 a.m.

NEW ORLEANS — Another day and another power outage for parts of the New Orleans metro area.

Entergy's web site showed more than 10,000 customers without power in an outage that started around 2:26 a.m. Entergy says that power could be restored by 6:30 a.m.

The outage map and some customers reported to WWL that power was restored around 4:45 a.m.

“Overnight at approximately 3am, a protective device on a transformer at the Napoleon substation became compromised — creating an outage that impacted approximately 11,000 customers. Entergy crews worked as quickly and safely as possible to restore service. All customers were restored by 4:51am. The root cause remains under investigation at this time," said Entergy spokesman Beau Tidwell.

The approximate boundaries for the outage were from St. Charles Avenue to Tchoupitoulas and from Audubon Park to Napoleon with some other areas nearby thrown in.

This comes one day after nearly 6,000 customers lost power in the Belle Chasse area when a tree fell at a substation on Behrman Highway.

Later Wednesday afternoon, there were 2,700 customers without power in Michoud.
