MSY officials address issues with long lines

Mondays are the busiest day of travel at New Orleans International Airport.

NEW ORLEANS — Armstrong International Airport has been busier than usual.

Over the past 9 Mondays, MSY has averaged over twenty thousand passengers, resulting in unusually long security lines.

TSA's Assistant Press Secretary at MSY, Gervais Joubert, says even though the lines are long, TSA is moving quickly.

"The long lines are deceptive,” Joubert said. “The lines are moving. And we try to keep our wait time around 20 minutes."

But passengers say differently. Mondays are the busiest day of travel at New Orleans International Airport, but there are a few things you can do to cut down on your time in line.

“Have your ID ready if you're waiting in line,” Joubert said. “Have your ID ready before you get to the checkpoint, empty your pockets, before you get to the end of the line.”

WWL Louisiana reporter Alyssa Curtis posted a video of Monday morning's lines on social media. Airport officials responded to her, saying, "We are working with local TSA team and internal departments on improving this experience."
