Mayor Cantrell owes more than $95k in back taxes, IRS puts liens on her home

The current liens date back to 2013.

NEW ORLEANS — New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell and her husband Jason owe more than $95,000 to the IRS for unpaid taxes, according to a liens filed against her Broadmoor home.

The current liens date back to 2013. The IRS put a liens on Cantrell’s home in 2018 for about $43,000 for taxes owed from 2013-15 according to NOLA.com/The New Orleans Advocate. Then, in 2019, another lien was filed for $31,000 in unpaid taxes from 2017. Earlier this month, the IRS filed another lien for about $19,400 in unpaid taxes from 2018.

Cantrell spokesperson Beau Tidwell told our partners at NOLA.com/The New Orleans Advocate that ““As the mayor disclosed in 2017, this matter is being addressed privately by the Cantrell family and their tax attorney," Tidwell said. "They look forward to resolving it soon."

When Cantrell ran for Mayor in 2017, the Lens reported on nearly $30,000 in unpaid taxes from 2010-12. Cantrell said she paid that amount off before voters went to the polls.
