Child dies in car crash on South Broad Sunday afternoon

Police said the juvenile victim was rushed to the hospital and pronounced dead a short time later.

NEW ORLEANS — New Orleans Police say that a 7-year-old boy was ejected from a vehicle and killed when two cars collided near the intersection of South Broad Street and Cleveland Avenue Sunday afternoon.

Police said the young victim was rushed to the hospital and pronounced dead a short time later.

According to police, the minivan the boy was traveling in was headed North on Cleveland Street when the driver attempted to cross South Broad. The driver of another vehicle was headed East on South Broad Street and the two vehicles collided in the intersection, sending the minivan rotating before slamming into the neutral ground. Police said when the minivan struck the neutral ground, the child was ejected.

Police said that initial reports said that a vehicle stopped in the right lane on South Broad may have obstructed the view of the minivan driver. Police did not say if the child was properly restrained.
