NEW ORLEANS — The Hard Rock hotel collapse has already cost the city of New Orleans more than $11 million dollars.
Between Oct. 12 when the construction site partially collapsed and December, the city of New Orleans spent $11,668,106. A list of costs associated with the collapse was attached to the agenda of the New Orleans City Council's monthly budget committee meeting Tuesday.
Documents show that most of the city's costs incurred by the collapse are tied to changing RTA routes, making repairs to Rampart Street and paying crews to work at the site.
The hotel was under construction when it partially collapsed, killing three people. Two bodies are still inside the building's unstable remains.
People in the city were outraged earlier last month when a tarp that had been covering the remains of one of the victims shifted, exposing the remains to onlookers. The tarp has since been replaced but it sparked cries for greater accountability.
The city plans to demolish the building in March.
