Tyrell Morris appears in court as criminal case against him moves forward

Morris is expected to be in court again on August 15.
A spokesperson said "The Mayor respects the judicial process as it moves to a conclusion under the law and the Office of Mayor will have no further comment."

NEW ORLEANS — Former New Orleans 911 center director Tyrell Morris appeared in court as the criminal case against him moves forward. Morris is charged with malfeasance in office, false personation of a peace officer, insurance fraud and second-degree public records injuring.

The charges came after a WWL Investigation revealed Morris tried to cover up a car crash in a city-owned vehicle.

On Wednesday, the state filed evidence against Morris in court. The Judge overseeing the case, Judge Simone Levine, announced that former Councilmember Jared Brossett filed a whistleblower case in conjunction with the existing case. Judge Levine then said she had to disclose that she had a previous professional relationship with Brossett, although not one that was seemingly very close. She said she had to disclose it in case any of the parties involved would like her to recuse herself from the case.

Morris is expected to be in court again on August 15.
