NEW ORLEANS — Former New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin was ordered to increase restitution payments from $500 per month to $1200 per month, effective immediately, according to court records.
Judge Jane Triche Milazzo granted the Government's request to increase Nagin's monthly restitution payments.
Unsurprisingly, Nagin argued against increasing payments, citing the original judge's sentence of $500 payments in compliance with his pension, as well as claiming that he financially supports both a parent and an adult daughter.
Nagin was originally ordered to pay $585,000 in restitution during his sentencing on federal corruption charges in July 2014. Nagin served in prison until he was released to house arrest in April 2020 during the height of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
