Delays at New Orleans airport after FAA computer failure

FAA has lifted the flight grounding order.

NEW ORLEANS — An FAA computer outage caused problems for some travelers at New Orleans Louis Armstrong International Airport Monday morning.

The New Orleans Louis Armstrong International Airport website showed some delays, but it’s unclear if the delays are related to the system outage. The outage has not impacted flights already in the air and the agency says those flights are safe to land.

The FAA says a system failure with their Notice to Air Missions computer system resulted in the nationwide outage.

Earlier in the morning the FAA grounded all domestic flights for at least two hours while the agency scrambled to reboot their critical computer systems which provide safety-critical information to pilots.

The FAA also said it was performing final validation checks and reloading the system, but system operations are still limited.

Flight departures were delayed until at least 8 a.m. Monday morning which the agency says allowed them to validate the integrity of flight and safety info.

Travelers are likely to experience delays throughout the rest of the day.
