NEW ORLEANS — A fire broke out at the nativity display in front of the Notre Dame Seminary Thursday night and was quickly extinguished by Father Joshua Rodrigue, according to reporting by the Clarion Herald.
The paper reports that Rodrigue, the rector at the seminary, believes the fire started when an electrical spark from lights on the display got into the hay bales surrounding the display. The fire seems to have been limited to the hay bales but the flames were pretty extensive before Rodrigue was able to use a fire extinguisher to put them out.
“We have a video that shows the lights went out as soon as the fire started,” he told the Herald.
New Orleans firefighters responded to further douse the bales of hay.
